UV Coatings

VOKA offers a comprehensive range of UV curable coatings and adhesives. This category is the largest in the portfolio we offer, supplying into the Digital, Narrow Web, Sheetfed and Liquid packaging sectors. The products are designed predominately for the packaging and label applications where global compliance and high performance and durability is required.

UV LM / FCM Gloss is formulated using specialised oligomers only guideline recommended acrylates (Nestle recommended materials) and high molecular weight initiators. This is a highly reactive formulation which minimises the chance of undercure and creates and extremely low odour and low potential migration characteristics. This coating is formulated with polymeric slip additives providing optimal slip and rub characteristics. Suitable for use on conventional, UV and hybrid ink types. Wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry applications.

Soft Touch UV lacquer is designed for general purpose paper and synthetic substrates. The formula is made to be highly stable in over long runs and maintain good flow and runnability indefinitely. With good adhesion and wetting characteristics it is suitable over most ink types and substrates. The product has been developed with specialized antifoams and slip additives to give low foaming properties and excellent scuff resistance.

The combinations of initiators and acrylates provides excellent cure with very low odour in the cured film. For optimum matting effect recommend film weights of 4 microns.

UV Release lacquer is a highly reactive formulation which minimises the chance of undercure and creates and extremely low odour coating. High levels of wetting additives give excellent levelling characteristics and smooth surface on most substrate types. The specialized properties of this coating are the additives which promote release and excellent slip characteristics meeting a broad application field. Suitable for use on conventional, UV and hybrid ink types. Wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry applications.

LM / FCM Lamination Adhesive This is a rapid curing lamination adhesive designed for inline lamination of BOPP & PET to board or paper. Applied at coat weights of 4-6 microns the product is designed for high speed curing (100-150M/min web speeds) and high strength bonding. The product is formulated with specialized initiators (Swiss Ordinance list A compliant) and highly crosslinked and contains no low functionality acrylates specifically manufactured for food products and taint sensitive goods. The formulation has excellent bonding characteristics and has been approved on a number of alternative films and substrates (including PLA/biodegradable films).

LED Coatings

VOKA offers a complete range of LED coatings and adhesives including FCM compliant materials. Our portfolio includes tailor made products for specific lamp wavelengths and specific materials. The digital sector has a high demand for LED coatings that are able to level and flow on a number of substrates and inks where VOKA have given particular development focus.

LED Gloss lacquer produces a high gloss with high slip that has been specifically designed for low energy lamp systems where the UV source provides only a narrow field of wavelengths. Specific problems in this type of application such as yellowing due to the initiator system and surface curing problems have been resolved with a unique synergistic blend of specialized acrylates and initiators.

LED release lacquers are particularly challenging due to the surface cure variation compared to standard mercury lamps, typically the products have to be run at much lower speeds to achieve satisfactory cure rates.  VOKA have formulated a composite product with novel catalysers to optimize the performance and give excellent surface release characteristics.

LED adhesives are a challenging area of development, particularly with the requirement of high compatibility with many substrates and films in combination with regulatory restrictions. Building on our knowledge of standard UV adhesive technology VOKA have developed a new range of high performance lamination adhesives for inline applications.  A range of these adhesives have been formulated for food applications and fully compliant with brand owner and EU legislative requirements.

LED FCM lacquers are a challenging as there are restrictions on the raw materials that fulfil the compliance for both brand owner and global regulatory requirements. LED lacquers are lower in energy so it is critical users can rely on the level of cure, ensuring the SML (Migration limits) are met for the end packaging construct. This has led to the development of a range of high performance LED lacquers with various functionality and finishes that can be trusted to meet the latest legislative requirements.

Dispersion Lacquers

VOKA offers a complete range of water-based coatings mainly used in Food Contact Material applications (FCM). The range is diverse and include heat activated adhesives, inkjet overprintable, barrier coatings and primers.

Luxury Soft Touch Matt Emulsion is a novel polymeric matt emulsion suitable for single sided applications. Designed with a highly flexible and luxury soft polymer formula this product gives a number of advantages over both lamination and normal matt emulsion formulas. The matting level provided is extreme and gives <5 point gloss levels in most applications. Higher film weights provide the strongest effect but care should be taken if high slip is required as the soft surface makes this product more rub sensitive. This coating is to be used on a wide variety of substrates and inks. It utilises a high performance antifoam/stabiliser system enabling use in high speed applications.

Low Dryback UV Primer is a specially designed UV Primer designed to minimize dryback effects with use of a high gloss UV Lacquer. This formula is extremely soft and flexible which provides optimum adhesion for subsequent UV Lacquering.

Inkjet Primer is a fast drying vinyl polymer blend which gives a degree of water permeability. This enables inkjet or water based inks to penetrate and key to the lacquer. The product is partially soluble in water so not suitable for high humidity environments or where exposure to damp conditions is likely.

Blister is a specialized adhesive product capable designed for the blisterpack and heatseal applications. For blister application adhesion is possible onto a number of blister materials including PVC, PET G. A PET is a more difficult blister to obtain strong bonds with. Through application on heat and pressure of between 90-120 °C this coating will resoften to form a very strong contact bond between the substrate and the lamination/heatseal material.
